National Express is one of the most admired public transport operators with bus, coach and rail services across the UK and continental Europe, reaching as far as North Africa, North America and the Middle East. They hold the largest market share for long-haul coach transport in both Spain and UK and are the 2nd largest yellow bus provider in North America! In 2018, passengers made a staggering 898 million journeys on their services, with National Express receiving the validation of Britain’s Most Admired Transport Company in the 2018 Today awards.

Since the beginning of 2018, Rob has been leading the digital transformation of National Express Group, developing their global innovation program, the business digital strategy and the MVP culture within the Group. Prior to joining NX as Chief Digital Officer, Rob has enjoyed a career in leading communication agencies such as Ogilvy and Leo Burnett as well as even founding and running his own start-up digital agency.

In his Canvas talk, Rob is going to share the insider story of how the adoption of MVP has sped up the rate of change and innovation at National Express. He’ll share the challenges and successes that they have experienced as the ‘fail fast’ nature of MVP comes into contact with the day-to-day running of an almost 50-year-old, FTSE 250 company. Rob will pull on real-life examples including the recently launched NEON proposition, National Express’ Alexa skill and some of the MVPs they’ve pushed through their Birmingham-based innovation centre. Expect to come away with an insight into how two very different cultures collide; start-up methodology meets legacy business.
